Although many feel that making New Years’ resolutions are somewhat done tongue and cheek, when you really think about it, these are promises that you make to yourself to do something to benefit you in some way. With that in mind, why would you work so hard to keep your word to others, but neglect yourself? Sounds crazy, right? So, let’s re-think that…
We come up with our resolutions because deep down we know these are the things in our life that need to be addressed. Whether it is lose weight, start going to the gym on a regular basis, or just start dating again, these are all things that we know can improve our lives, so we offer them up at the beginning of the year in hopes that somehow, just speaking the words will bring that change we desire. However, life simply doesn’t always work that way. One of the most important things we can do to improve our lives is to take action!
I urge you to take action this coming New Years’ by making some resolutions. If you are uncomfortable with commitment, then keep the list to a minimum, but maintain a commitment to fulfill them, each of them, with a time span that is doable for you. Just like losing weight or beginning any sort of life change, setting small, measureable goals is the best way to assure you will see your way to the end.
Many see New Years’ day as simply another day in the year, the first day of a new year, but nothing special. Take the symbolism of a new year to work on a new you. Those things that you wish to change, take action to change them and benefit you with a timeline of 365 days. That is plenty of time to change or add anything to your life!
